(CNN) -- Multiple people were injured in a stabbing incident Tuesday morning at a Houston-area college, prompting officials to urge students to take shelter, the school said.

At least 12 people and as many as 14 have been injured in the incident at Lone Star College's CyFair campus in Cypress, according to CNN affiliates KHOU, KTRK and KPRC, who are citing authorities.

Authorities have detained one suspect, and another might be at large, the school said in a statement.

"There are multiple injuries and conflicting reports on the total number of victims and severity of injuries," the school's statement said. "We can confirm that several people have been transported to area hospitals."

The Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed that one suspect has been detained. Earlier, the sheriff's office said at least one person was stabbed at the college.

Details about what led to the incident weren't immediately released.

"Stay away from the area. Seek shelter in a secure location until the incident is resolved," the school posted on its website.

Tuesday's incident comes more than two months after three people were wounded in a shooting at a different Lone Star College campus -- the North Harris campus in Houston.

It is unclear why Shoop targeted the mall, which is at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 4, near the Garden State Parkway, but police believe he may have been seeking out someone specific who ended up not being there, Fox News reported.

The 2.1-million-square-foot shopping complex remained on lockdown Tuesday as police talked with witnesses and searched the area. Authorities found Shoop’s cell phone on the mall's second floor near Neiman Marcus, a source told Fox News. A leather jacket and backpack were also found in Lord & Taylor, also on the second floor.
Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera and Jim Tedesco of the city’s Office of Emergency Management told the media about 11:15 p.m. that the gunman fired only a single round from a long-barreled rifle, but numerous witnesses described the gunman firing multiple shots. The gunfire, however, seemed wild and was not aimed at anyone in particular.

Kimberly Recchia, 20, an employee at the bareMinerals store, said she saw the gunman enter the mall. “He was walking slowly with his rifle, shots were fired and he was slowly walking toward us,” Recchia told The News, recalling what she saw from inside the store. “He had a mask on and was dressed in all black.

“I ran back into the room and he kept getting closer and closer, and I thought he was gonna come into our store because our gate wasn’t closed yet, but thankfully he didn’t,” Recchia said.

“He is a tall guy. He was wearing a black leather jacket, black biker helmet, and he had a big shotgun,” Heggs told The News.
“It was a regular Monday at the mall and all of a sudden ... you heard screaming. The security guard screamed, ‘Get the f--k out!’” Heggs added. “You could hear the (shots) .... My main concern being the supervisor was getting everyone out of the store.”
Officials have said the mall will remain closed Tuesday.

Central Connecticut State University suspect in custody Monday afternoon after campus was locked down for about three hours.

Central Connecticut State University was shutdown for about three hours after several 911 calls reported a man walking on campus with a gun, a sword and body armor. An unidentified student was arrested Monday afternoon, along with two persons of interest, officials said.
But they refused to answer questions about whether the outfit may have been a Halloween costume.
Authorities released few details about the incident at a press conference late Thursday afternoon. There were no injuries. All three "student-age" male supsects were arrested without incident on the fourth floor of the James Hall dormitory. Police are still investigating, but said there was no real threat to the campus. They would not elaborate on reports that a Halloween costume was to blame for the lockdown, but did say they were looking into that possibility.
"In this situation, our prayers were answered," said CCSU president Jack Miller. "Everybody was brave and they were calm."
School officials said Monday's lockdown was not an active-shooter situation as of about 1 p.m., but students were still ordered to stay inside.

School officials said Monday's lockdown was not an active-shooter situation as of about 1 p.m., but students were still ordered to stay inside.

Campus police chief Chris Cervoni would not say if weapons were recovered or address reporters' questions about whether the events were actually caused by a leftover Halloween costume. "There were several 911 calls," he said.
The main suspect, dressed in camoflauge, was a student, Cervoni said. He gave no other information about the two persons of interest except to say they were "student-age." The trio was leaving a dorm room when police apprehended them. Surveillance video from cameras at the resident hall's entrance, and card-swipe entry data helped identify the student arrested, Cervoni said.
Police earlier told NBC that a man armed with a gun was seen entering a residential hall at CCSU just before noon.
One student took to Twitter to posted suspect being led away by police.
